Abstract:

The complex compositions and large shrinkage of concrete, as well as the strong constraints of thestructures, often lead to prominent shrinkage cracking problems in modern concrete structures.cementitious materials as the basic state parameter to estimate the shrinkage cracking risk of hardening concreteThese technologies can efficiently reduce the thermal, autogenous, and drying shrinkages of concrete. Finally, two engineering application examples are provided that demonstrate that concrete shrinkage cracking

Traditional Chinese medicine: potential approaches from modern dynamical complexity theories

Yan Ma,Kehua Zhou,Jing Fan,Shuchen Sun

Frontiers of Medicine 2016, Volume 10, Issue 1,   Pages 28-32 doi: 10.1007/s11684-016-0434-2

Abstract:

Despite the widespread use of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) in clinical settings, proving its effectiveness via scientific trials is still a challenge. TCM views the human body as a complex dynamical system, and focuses on the balance of the human body, both internally and with its external environment. Such fundamental concepts require investigations using system-level quantification approaches, which are beyond conventional reductionism. Only methods that quantify dynamical complexity can bring new insights into the evaluation of TCM. In a previous article, we briefly introduced the potential value of Multiscale Entropy (MSE) analysis in TCM. This article aims to explain the existing challenges in TCM quantification, to introduce the consistency of dynamical complexity theories and TCM theories, and to inspire future system-level research on health and disease.

Development of oxide based diffusion barrier coatings for CFC components applied in modern furnaces

Kirsten BOBZIN, Lidong ZHAO, Thomas SCHLAEFER, Thomas WARDA

Frontiers of Mechanical Engineering 2011, Volume 6, Issue 4,   Pages 392-396 doi: 10.1007/s11465-011-0241-z

Abstract:

Carbon fibre reinforced carbon (CFC) materials show a high potential for usage in furnaces as sample carriers for example, which is due to their excellent thermal stability compared to steel carriers. Only their tendency to react with different metals at high temperatures by C-diffusion is a disadvantage, which can be solved by application of diffusion barriers. In order to enable the utilization of CFC-carriers for e.g. brazing furnaces, within the frame of this study thermally sprayed diffusion barrier coatings were developed. Coatings of mullite and ZrO2-7%βY2O3 (YSZ) were prepared by air plasma spraying (APS). The coatings were investigated in terms of their microstructure and thermal shock behaviour. In order to prove the suitability of the coatings for the application in brazing furnaces, the wettability of the coating surfaces by a Ni-based brazing alloy was investigated. The results showed that both mullite and YSZ could be deposited on CFC substrates with a bond coat of W or SiC. Both coatings exhibited good thermal shock behaviour and an excellent non-wetting behaviour against the used Ni-based braze alloy.

Low carbon scenario and technologies in modern city——Case study of Shenyang City

Liu Zhu,Geng Yong ,Xue Bing,Dong Huijuan

Strategic Study of CAE 2011, Volume 13, Issue 4,   Pages 101-105

Abstract:

Taking a multi dimensional perspective of economic development, carbon dioxide, industrial pollutant emission and resource consumption in the case study of Shenyang City, the resource consumption and environmental impact in the process of urban economic development and low carbon transition were analyzed. The emission reduction potential and scenario of various technologies were evaluated. The results showed that the city played a key role in global low-carbon economic construction, and emission reduction technologies in urban scale can reduce total amount of carbon emission in substantial degree. From the aspect of future development, the input of technology and economic growth pattern should be strengthened to realize economic development and total amount reduction of pollutant emission.

Aerodynamic design by jointly applying S2 flow surface calculation and modern optimization methods on

ZHAO Honglei, WANG Songtao, HAN Wanjin, FENG Guotai

Frontiers in Energy 2008, Volume 2, Issue 1,   Pages 93-98 doi: 10.1007/s11708-008-0007-4

Abstract: A three-stage axial turbine was redesigned by jointly applying S2 flow surface direct problem calculation methods and multistage local optimization methods. A genetic algorithm and artificial neural network were jointly adopted during optimization. A three-dimensional viscosity Navier–Stokes equation solver was applied for flow computation. H-O-H-topology grid was adopted as computation grid, that is, an H-topology grid was adopted for inlet and outlet segment, whereas an O-topology grid was adopted for stator zone and rotor zone. Through the optimization design, the total efficiency increases 1.1%, thus indicating that the total performance is improved and the design objective is achieved.
